The 16th Annual Race of the little canoes will be run in the summer of 2003. Every year the members diligently re-paint, re-number, and re-float up to 800 canoes. For each
numbered canoe there is a corresponding $10 ticket sold.
The race is usually on a Sunday afternoon in July at Riverview Park on the Kenogami River in the community of Longlac. As the little 22-inch, solid wood canoes float along,
several factors come into play - current, rain, wind, and just general contrariness. Some canoes escape to the reeds and have to be coaxed back into the fleet. Each canoe seems to have a
personality.
The Society depends on this fund-raiser to maintain and operate the Longlac History Centre and its other projects.
